The meeting between father and son lasted 53 minutes.
The long-awaited meeting between Prince Harry and his father took place in London. The conversation, which lasted less than an hour, showed that the path to reconciliation in the royal family is still far from over.
In mid-September, London witnessed the event that both the British media and supporters of the monarchy had been waiting for. Prince Harry, who has been living in California for more than four years, met with his father – King Charles III – for the first time in 19 months.
The short conversation took place at the monarch’s private residence – Clarence House. Harry arrived there at around 17:22 in a Land Rover, and at 18:14 he left for a charity event dedicated to his project The Invincibles Game.
According to The Sun, the meeting was mostly official, and the Duke of Sussex felt more like a guest than a son. At the same time, there were personal moments: Harry brought his father a framed family photo as a gift, and Charles prepared a surprise for his son’s 41st birthday. After exchanging kisses as a sign of greeting, they sat down for tea.
Insiders add that there were also “hugs and tears” in the conversation – Harry became emotional after a long pause, and Charles did not hide his emotions. However, officials from both sides urged not to trust all the details in the press, because a significant part of “quotes and details are fiction”.
We remind you that Harry’s relationship with the royal family cooled sharply in 2020 after he renounced royal duties and moved with Meghan Markle to the United States. The memoirs Spare and the Netflix series have additionally increased tensions. The most tense relationship remains with his brother, Prince William, who did not even meet Harry this time.
It was previously reported that Prince Harry, during his stay in Kyiv, visited the memorial on Maidan Nezalezhnosti, dedicated to the fallen Ukrainian defenders.
